| so my xbox live hasnt been working for ages, pretty much after i changed isp's. ive tried different lan cables, ive tried using my laptop as a wireless hotspot and bridging connection, and none of those helped. is there anything else i should try aside from having to buy a wireless adaptor? and even then theres a chance it mite not work.
i kinda think there might be something wrong with my xbox...

| how so? it doesnt pick up the network at all, it would at least say a firewall is blocking the connection or something, but it in no way at all registers on my router or my computer. | |

| I'm going to assume you're using a Xbox 360 with the newest firmware version on it.
Turn it on, go to the My Xbox section, and scroll all the way to the right, to System Settings. Select this. From here, go to Network Settings. See if there's anything that you may need to change here.

| Speaking of Xbox fail. The Live! service is STILL not available in Poland and various other countries in Europe. Ergo, the Xbox360 device is being sold as incomplete product. The only way to use Live is to register Live account in other country (which is kinda violating some MS rules, I guess).
I guess it's not related much to aries situation, but I'll write it anyway:
So, if there's someone out there that is wondering why he can't play online on his Xbox, check if you're not royally screwed by MS...

| well, aries, assuming that your Xbox is the old one, then I may know why you're not be able to get your Xbox Live. Microsoft just recently shut down all the old Xbox Live servers, so now you pretty much have to use the 360 versions instead if you want to continue using Live.
I'm not sure if that was relevant to the conversation, but I thought it might help shed some light on this particular subject.

| It was never specified if the Xbox console in question was an Original Xbox or Xbox 360, or what menu version was running on it, so I simply assumed it was the Xbox 360 console with the latest menu system installed on it.
If it was an Original Xbox, like Mithos said, you're just screwed, as MS shut down Original Xbox Live services for some stupid reason.

| no, it's not a stupid reason. It's because the old Xbox is becoming obsolete, and Microsoft knows that anyone that wants an Xbox will get the 360 nowadays, not the old version. So basically, those that want to keep an Xbox Live account have to upgrade from the old Xbox to the 360, simple as that. | |

| sry for not making it clear, its a 360 pro. might fiddle with those network settings today as ryojin said but im 90% sure it wont do anything, i think a static ip is needed for that, and im not too keen on using one. if that doesnt work.... might just call up tech support and send it in... do they let me keep my hard drive? dont want to lose all my saves O.O | |

| When you send consoles in, you are to remove the hard drive from it before sending it in. I've heard of someone sending it in with the hard drive, but it did not come back with one. After complaining to MS about it, they send him a brand new one, but I wouldn't count on that happening again, especially since they clearly state in their guide for sending it in for repair not to include the hard drive. As long as your saves are saved onto the hard drive, they will be safe. If they are stored on the console's IMU, then you're shit out of luck, but fortunately, most consoles don't have a built in IMU for things such as saves and profiles. And just so you know, when sending a console in for repair, as far as I know, they don't actually repair the console and send it back. They just send a different, but working machine. At least, that's what they did for me when I sent mine in for a RRoD error. When you start your console and get to the menu system, do you see the NXE menu, or Pre-NXE menu? NXE: Pre-NXE: It does make a difference, as my instructions for how to get to the network settings are for the NXE system, and I am not sure if you could do the same for the Pre-NXE system... | |
