This thread will be for the emails between me and Microsoft Xbox Customer Support... It all started when I decided to finally contact Xbox customer support about my xbox not reading my copy of Halo 2 after sending it in to be repaired, when it worked perfectly before, and works in my mom's xbox quite well...

I no longer have the initial email sent to them, but I can tell you that it stated that I have already tried every step that I know, including making sure the disc is clean, trying the disc with no memory devices of any kind in it, clearing system cache, and everything else that I could think of. I tried the disc in another console, where it worked perfectly, and it is only the Halo 2 disc that does not work in the console, while every single other xbox 360 (and compatible original) game and accessory works perfectly.

This is an ongoing conversation as of right now...

The disc that is not working for me is Halo 2. When I put the disc into the tray and close it, the disc is not detected at all. It just says 'Open Tray'. A copy of the same game that I had worked just fine though, but I no longer have the working disc.

I'm pretty sure that it isn't the disc causing the problem because it works in another console of the same kind.

2. If the problem happens with several discs of different types (games, DVDs, and CDs), skip to "Step 7: Request a repair" below.

If a specific game disc will not play:

1. Search the Microsoft Knowledge Base to determine if the game title has any known problems.
2. Make sure the media type and the disc region code are compatible with the console.
If the disc you are using has a region code that is compatible with your console but you still cannot play the disc, try step 3.



Step 3: Clear your system cache

If your Xbox 360 console can't play multiple game discs, try clearing your system cache. Here's how:

1. On the console, go to My Xbox , and then select System Settings .
2. Select Memory .
3. Highlight any storage device, and then press Y on your controller.
4. Select Clear System Cache .
Note If Clear System Cache is not available, use the button sequence described in the following article:

5. Try to play a game disc.

If you still can't play a game disc, try step 4.



Step 4: Remove the hard drive

If the problem only happens with game discs, let's try temporarily removing your hard drive. If your Xbox 360 console does not have a hard drive, skip to step 5.

. Turn off your console.
. Locate the hard drive on your console.
. Press the release button on the hard drive and lift the hard drive from the console.
. Turn on your console.
. Try to play a game disc. If this step resolves the problem, reattach the hard drive and contact Xbox support to order a replacement hard drive.

If this step resolves the problem, reattach the hard drive and contact Xbox support to order a replacement hard drive.

If you still can't play game discs, try step 5.


Step 5: Disconnect memory units

1. Turn off your console.
2. Unplug any memory units attached to your console.
3. Turn on your console.
4. Try playing a game.

If this step resolves the problem, reattach the memory units and contact Xbox support to order a replacement memory unit.

If you still can't play game discs or if your console does not have a memory unit, try step 6.



Step 6: Request a disc replacement

If you are having problems with only one disc, you should have the disc replaced.

If you are having intermittent problems with more than one disc, your console needs to be repaired.


Step 7: Request a repair

Again, it's only Halo 2 that I have problems with. It always shows "Open Tray" when I put the disc in. The disc is clean with no scratches. The disc works in other 360 consoles besides my own. My Xbox360 has absolutely no problems with any other discs, even the scratched and/or dirty ones. I've tried every other step on the list there, but it has not helped at all. I've already had to send in my 360 once already, and I am fairly certain that I received a new one because of different firmware on it, and the fact that it was missing a number of small scratches that the one I sent in had.

I suppose all I can really do is send it in again and hope that it works this time... Thanks for your time... I just wish there was another solution.

Really, the thing that is frustrating me here are the generic responses. I got three different emails that were almost exactly the same. The only differences were in the names and the wording in the explanation of my problem back to me as if I am some sort of retard who can't tie his own shoes. I mean, I get that you guys get a lot of emails and most of them are covered by that blanket message, but if it doesn't work the first time, doesn't anyone have any sense to know that it won't work the next two times? If I had just gotten this message as the second reply instead of the third or fourth, then I wouldn't be so upset. At least in this last one, it is mentioned that there are no additional steps to attempt to get it working...

It isn't worth it to send in my xbox for one game, and not even a great game at that, especially when every single other xbox 360 (And compatible xbox original) game and accessory works perfectly. I'm just trying to make sure that there is absolutely nothing at all that could be the cause of the problem.

So, thanks for your time, although I suspect that less than five minutes of it was taken...

I know it seems weird, but I am happy with this answer. For pretty much the first time, my email was actually read!

I could keep on going with this, but I got what I wanted. There's no need to mention the fact that my ps2 is still running perfectly after years and years of use, and that my PS3 is just fine as well, although I got that after my 360, all while my 360 has failed me twice now...

I never sent a repair request. Like I told them, it isn't worth it to send in my 360 just because one single game doesn't work, while everything else I could possibly want does.
