Angel Beats!

First of all this series was created/produced or whatever by Key, a company already known for great VN's/Anime's like Kanon and Clannad, so going into this i already had pretty high expectations. Not mentioned in the plot summary is the main male character Otonashi who appears in this world without any memory's(This happens immediately so not really a spoiler), a fairly likeable fellow who is your typical male protagonist; Confused, reluctant but still very friendly and outgoing. Other characters are introduced and so far there hasn't been any completely unlikeable(?) one's. There is a healthy mixture of male and female characters so this doesnt really turn into a harem style anime which is good :p.

The artwork is quite good and sticks to the general design from Kanon and Clannad, the first thing most people will notice is that the main female character Yuri looks almost exactly like Haruhi but this doesnt really kill the story or the general feel of the series. From what ive seen so far each character seems to have their own story which so far has been interesting and gives the characters more depth. Despite the playful feel of the series there is a fair bit of violence, nothing too graphic but you can really feel it, it also indirectly deals with a bunch of issues like Domestic violence and Depression.

So i guess to sum up; Angel Beats! is a series with a playful feel but some serious undertones here and there, it has its fair share of humour and heart warming moments (from what ive seen so far) and is definitely one of the better series coming out at the moment =].

p.s: yea i kinda feel that one day il have me own site where il review anime and whatnot, not for money or anything just for something to do with friends and to share my opinions, hopefully people will like what i have to offer, this is pretty much practise, and at the same time sharing anime that is good. I kinda feel that even here it would be better if the creator of the thread would at least grab some of the stuff from ANN or something to "convince" other members to watch it then come here and discuss it if a mod could pm me and let me know if this is alright thatd be great, i wont spam the Anime section with every single anime i come across, only the better ones

I'm still considering whether to watch this anime or not. I've been seeing the title on Realitylapse for quite some times but not sure if it's any good. From the review, I'm still not that convinced to watch. Maybe if there are a few other positive reviews than I'll watch it.

Aries: I've nothing against your intention to write you review about anime but not on all animes that you come across. Only the good ones. Keep up the good work

Watched 8 episodes so far, a really, really cool series with lots of humor (I almost backflipped when I saw the Resident Evil reference ) balanced with a fair dose of violence and pretty interesting story in a somehow unique universe, reminding me of Unreal Tournament (violent deaths and something I'd call "respawns" ). I think I'm NOT gonna regret time wasted watching this anime.

ye ep 8 really finished with a "omfg whats going to happen next" moment. i really think that them respawning all the time, it must have some sort of price thatl hopefully be revealed later. That ep where theyre supposed to distract angel, and Yuri put those rockets under their chairs, man that was classic, i lol'd so hard when she got that guy twice haha.

Anyway appears to be worth a shot

Yea, my first impression of Yuri was "oh, what the hell Haruhi is doing here?".
And the second one was that her name is so friggin lesbian (yuri = lesbian anime, if anyone didn't know already).

And yeah, rocketchair scene was fabulous

In Japan, Yuri, though it is used as a denotation for lesbian anima/hentai/denotations, it is most commonly used as a female name that would be translated to "Lily" in english. In russian, I believe Yuri is translated to George in english. But nonetheless, the name being Yuri doesn't really make it lesbian, since it's in all technicalities, just Lily.

Also, this looks semi interesting, and I may check it out some day, though I'm not sure how soon someday will be, lol.

this show is just getting ridiculous... in a good way, Key has this amazing ability of just adding the right things at the right time and not failing like so many other anime.
